Novelist Clint Gaige has been nominated for 2003 Pushcart Prize for his short fiction.
Martinsburg, West Virginia – November 25, 2003: Novelist Clint Gaige, reluctant to attempt short fiction, has seen the error of his ways with his latest published short story. Human Condition, first published by Futures Mysterious Anthology Magazine, has been nominated for the 2003 Pushcart Prize for Short Fiction.
The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses series, published every year since 1976, is the most honored literary project in America. Hundreds of presses and thousands of writers of short stories, poetry and essays have been represented in the pages of their annual collections.
Writers who were first noticed within their pages include: Raymond Carver, Tim O’Brien, Andre Dubus, Susan Minot, Mona Simpson, John Irving, Philip Levine, and many more. Each year most of the writers and many of the presses are new to the series.
Cited by Publisher’s Weekly as “the most influential projects in the history of American publishing,” it is truly an honor just to be nominated. Small Publishers are allowed 6 nominations over the course of the year. Babs Lakey the Minnesota Publisher of Futures Mysterious Anthology Magazine, nominated Gaige’s story. About the nomination Mrs. Lakey said, “The thing I like about Clint’s writing, well, ONE of the things that I like MOST, is that he often has a moral to the story.”
As an author Gaige has learned the moral of this story, embrace short fiction.
